Knock, Knock...

-Knock, knock

-Who's there?

-March

-March, who?  It can't be March!

Oh, but it is!  It is!  You wouldn't know it, though, if you lived here in Barrie and looked out your window this early morning.  Your eyes would see snow piled high on your neighbours' front lawns, driveways fresh with fallen snow, cars encrusted in ice, and snowflakes falling ever so slowly, but surely.

My backyard this morning

It looks like a perfectly wintry day with no sign of Spring in sight.  Police are advising motorists to stay off the roads unless completely necessary, as the highways are slippery with ice and continuous falling snow.  School buses have been cancelled and numerous collisions have been reported.

Even though our first day of March is bringing with it more wintry weather, the end IS in sight.  Afterall, it's the month of Spring and the promise of crocuses, daffodils and tulips!  It's the start of maple syrup season and in just ten days it'll be Spring break!  Children young and old, will be home from school for an entire week!  My mother will be spending a few days with us and my girls are so excited!  And of course, the weather will get milder, the snow will eventually melt and the yellow grass will give way to one of my favorite signs of Spring - the American robin!

Happy March and early Spring!  I'm waiting, as patiently as I can.  It'll get here...it always does! xo

  1. Happy March, sweetie! I'm surfing through blogland, trying desperately to fend off a huge wave of jetlag that's threatening to shut my eyes (mustn't give in!!) So happy to find a new post from you to help me stay awake! Wow...that's some snow! Hope that you are all safe, cosy & warm in your nest...I have a feeling you will be. It's a gorgeous sunshiney early spring day here...purple & yellow crocuses are blooming all over my garden & the bees are zooming in & out of the hive, collecting the fresh new pollen! Wishing you a happy March & a thaw soon...& sending much love xo

  2. Won't be long now before you'll spot a Robin or two. I am happy it's raining here today so it will hopefully invigorate the lawns and flowers and hurry Spring along.
I bought a new bird feeder at the bird store and hope to get it hung on a new rod outside my kitchen window. Old one was way to low.
It will be very nice for you and the girls to spend time with your Mom during Spring Break. Have a great time! Hugs and Love xoxo

  4. Your backyard is so pretty, but I LOVED reading your description of spring. I think the prettiest springs I've ever experienced were when we lived in Maine and we really had to wait for it. There was nothing like that slow awakening: the birds coming back and the lilacs blooming. Mmm...

And oh! Enjoy maple syrup season! :)

  5. Well everyone tempted the fates by saying how mild the winter was, how late the winter was. And now--one word: vengeance! Happy not yet but soon enough springtime.

  8. So chilly there! The snow is so pretty though. I live in south Florida so I have my AC on today. In fact, I don't think I have turned my heater on once this season :-( XoXo

    1. Hello, Katie! I visited Orlando, Florida last year for the first time with my husband and my girls. We absolutely loved it. I can tell you that I've never turned off my heating - not once this season! And it'll be weeks before our AC is turned on. Enjoy the warmth. I am dreaming of it! xoxo
