My Apron Collection

Hello friends! Happy Tuesday!  Brrr!  It's so cold here in Barrie today! It's currently -15 degrees Celsius or 5 degrees Fahrenheit!  You wouldn't know it by looking out the window, though.  The sky is a cloudless blue, the sun is shining bright,  and the snow on the ground is sparkling!  I am happy to enjoy the view from inside today.

Did you know that I have a thing for aprons?  Not only do I collect aprons,  I also love to wear them.  I have acquired quite a collection over the years. If you happen to knock at my door in the evening, chances are, you will find me wearing an apron whilst preparing dinner.

An apron always hangs on this hook on the side of my kitchen hutch. The one pictured here with the Eiffel tower print is the latest addition to my collection.  It 's a birthday gift from a dear friend who apparently knows me very well!

I thought it would be fun to show you a few of my favourite aprons in my collection.

This is a waist apron (or half apron) from Laura Ashley.  I love the floral print and soft blue color!

The one on the left is a Jessie Steele red/white polka-dot bib apron.  The half-apron on the right was a thoughtful gift from a friend who visited  Disney Land Park in California and knew how much I would appreciate it!

I love the darling ruffle detail and the Minnie Mouse applique on the front pocket!

This pretty Cath Kidston half apron came all the way across the pond!

This apron holds a special place in my heart.  It was handmade by one of my friends! Isn't it beautiful?

Look at the detail of the pocket here!  So much work and love went into the making of this apron.  That is why I treasure it so!

Last but not least, is this vintage little half apron.  I love how dainty it looks.  My mother bought this one for me a couple of years ago on one of our thrift shop outings together.

Although I adore the delightful half aprons, I don't wear them nearly as much.  When I cook, I like to cover up, so I always reach for a bib apron, as it offers more coverage!

Here's a sweet apron poem I found online...

Mother's Apron

It hangs there on the kitchen wall,
A tattered apron, that is all,
But there is something I recall,
The love when Mother wore it.

From early morn 'till setting sun,
Her work, it seems, was never done,
Us children kept her on the run,
That apron, I adore it.

It tells of when I tried to flee,
When chased by angry bumble bees,
And then my Mother rescued me,
And in the process tore it.

It tells of when I stayed home ill,
With burning fever, then a chill,
And on her apron, tonic spilled,
Because I tried to pour it.

My mother had no fancy clothes,
With satin ribbons, lace or bows,
But in that apron love she showed,
And we could not ignore it.

And now it hangs upon the wall,
What looked so large, appears so small,
A mem'ry since I learned to crawl,
I know now why she wore it.

Do any of you collect aprons, too?  Do you wear an apron when you cook?  Or do you wear one all the time?  Maybe you don't like aprons at all!  I'd love to know.  Leave me your comments below!

Keep cozy and enjoy the rest of your week! xo

  1. I adore this!
I love all your aprons, my friend.
I have just begun wearing an apron, and am excited to continue.
In fact, Steve just had a beautiful oak apron rack made for me!
    Now...I get to fill it.
Peyton has that same Disney apron. : )
    Have a wonderful day!

  2. Yes! I do! I love your aprons, especially the Eiffel Tower one.
I'm too messy for half aprons, and mine goes on first thing ~ I have to remember to take it off before I leave the house. I have my first apron, and the apron I made by hand for Domestic Science in school, and the apron my Nanna wore to wait on Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
    I love laundering them too.
    Have a wonderful day!

  3. I collect aprons and love to wear them when I cook. ♥ An apron was part of my grandmother's everyday dress. I grew up thinking everyone wore aprons. :) Thank you for sharing your apron collection! Love them.....

  6. Rosinda, what a charming collection of aprons you have! I never see an apron without thinking of my Nanny--she even did her housework in an apron. I do wear an apron --when I forget that's when a spill or splatter happens! I love seeing your Emma Bridgewater displayed so beautifully! xo ♥

  7. You've a really special collection of aprons. I'm sorry to say that I haven't formed the habit of donning an apron when I begin cooking, though my hubby always thinks to wear one when he is helping in the kitchen. I actually have a few aprons that my late mother wore. They have been kept in a drawer, but this post is causing me to think of other options for them.

  9. It used to be my yearly tradition to make an apron every Xmas for my daughter. She's the one with the collection! I have one old and ratty one she'd made me and it's the one I use all the time. Somehow it's not 100% cotton and that means all the crap I get on it washes out. The year I made aprons for all the girls, I also made one for me, but it was a hard one and I've hardly worn it cause when I do it will get dirty. On FRIENDS, Rachel always looked so adorable in her half aprons when she had that job at the cafe, but no, they serve little purpose. I was never that close to any of my grandparents, but the one image of my paternal grandmother still stored in my mind was of her in an apron in her little NY kitchen. It was one of those cool ones from the 1940's, well it was the 50's by then, but the apron was old. I like the ones with the crossed straps at the back. It takes as long to sew an apron as a dress, sometimes longer, because of all the details. Well, Rosinda, enjoy all your aprons. Imagine how many you will have when you're my age. AND since you're so thin, you could find some amazing antique ones. The ones from before the Downton period with the white inset lace and long, flounced skirts are so beautiful. You'd have to go to a nice flea market to find them. Then you'd really be afraid to wear them! I made a pinterest board for aprons so maybe that's MY collection! http://www.pinterest.com/mmezodiac/aprons/ ♥

    1. Thank you, Nancy! What a lovely image you hold of your grandmother wearing her apron in her NY kitchen. I, too, like aprons with crossed straps on the back, although I don't own any like that. I didn't have a Pinterest account until now. Thanks for sharing the link! Your Pinterest collection is beautiful. I especially love the pale pink apron with the cabbage roses! xx

  11. Wow! I love your apron collection! I have two, but rarely remember to wear one when I cook and very often regret it! I have always wanted to put up a hook for my apron in the kitchen, but never seem to have a floor plan that allows for a hook on the wall. Hopefully in our next house!

  14. How beautiful, Rosinda...I have a collection of aprons too, but mine are all quite functional for work and not at all lovely like your collection. I do have some very nice ones though, given to me by friends. Paul collects them as well, the big, all enveloping men ones. We pick them up when we go to restaurants, they often have them with the restaurant logo so It's a nice reminder of a special place. Much love to you sweetie xoxo

  18. Hi Rosinda, I love this post! Your collection of aprons is darling!!! I love aprons too and always wear one in the kitchen. I grew up with my Mom and grandmother wearing one - it's only natural that I would inherit the apron gene! : ) Most of mine are gifts as well and I have one special one that my mother made for me. I picked out the fabric and it's so pretty that I feel bad getting it dirty! LOL All of your aprons are so pretty! I love every single one! Why not look cute while we are in the kitchen, right?! Thanks so much for sharing your special collection! ♥

  19. Hi Rosinda, I love all of your cute aprons. It is interesting to see how many of us like aprons. I have several and have made some cute ones for my granddaughters in hopes of carrying on a tradition with them. I can still picture my Mum and both of my grandmothers wearing their aprons, it's a wonderful memory. In my collection I have a beautiful Portmeirion apron with flowers and an all cotton Ulster Weavers one called Bird Song and also a red and white one. I can tell that your aprons are very special to you.
    A fun post.

    1. Hello Audrey! Thank you! I agree that it's interesting to see how many of us like and use aprons. Sounds like you have quite a lovely collection yourself! Guess what? I don't own an Ulster Weavers Birdsong apron, but I do have an Ulster Weavers Birdsong tea towel and matching tea cozy! They were gifts from a dear friend who knows how enamored I am with birds! Isn't that funny? xx

    2. Very funny, because my apron was also a gift from my neighbour who knows that I am a bird lover! She used to travel back and forth to Scotland and that is where she purchased it. Now I must go on a search for either the cozy or tea towel, here though, not in Scotland.
      Cute eh?
      Audrey.
